In a blog titled 7 ways to bust your seasonal allergies, I talked about how one of the simplest – and sweetest – ways to boost your immune system and fight seasonal allergies is to have a some local honey everyday. There’s evidence that local honey works as an antidote against the pollen in the air, so whether it’s for seasonal allergies, boosting your immune system or just adding a little bit of a healthier sweetener to your hot drinks, integrating honey is a really wise thing to do.
In another one of my blogs titled For the love of bees, my emphasis was on raw local local honey. I’ve been told by many beekeepers that many of the beneficial properties of honey are found in raw and unpasteurized honey. Other by-products of honey, like Royal Jelly, Bee Pollen and Propolis are all super healthy for you as well, and can be bought separately. But, to be honest, these properties are also found in your basic jar of local, raw honey.
Interesting fact: Bee pollen, consumed as food on its own or as part of the raw honey in a jar, is a superfood! It has all 22 amino acids, 27 different minerals and vitamins, and a whopping 5000 enzymes and co-enzymes, antioxidants as well anti-bacterial, anti-viral and anti-fungal properties.
So if you’re suffering from seaonal allergies, be sure to check out the blog and pick up some local raw honey. I’ve signed up for a honey share from my local beekeepers Gees Bees, and if you’re in the Ottawa area I recommend you check them out as well
